Beautiful Flash Website - Christian Sparrow

June 5th, 2008 Craig Posted in Flash Showcase 2 Comments »

ChristianSparrow.com - screen captureChristian Sparrow is a self taught interactive designer, and after looking at his website, I couldn’t help but share it. The website has what I sometimes like to call a “paper doll” feel to it, and even though that isn’t really the best way to describe it, you’ll see what I mean when you get there.

One of my favorite things about Christian’s website was his portfolio. It’s immediately apparent from looking through his work that he isn’t married to any one particular style. He’s got a great vision for style, and he’s not afraid to experiment with different ideas and methods . . . something we could all learn from.

Anyways, drop by Christian’s site and let him know how awesome he is!

Homestar Runner

May 7th, 2008 Craig Posted in Flash Showcase 2 Comments »

From time to time, I like to showcase Flash work that other people are doing, and it would be impossible to do so without at some point mentioning Homestar Runner. If you’ve never heard of Homestar Runner, then you’re really missing out. Creators Matt and Mike Chapman have built a small empire on a few crudely animated–and insanely hilarious–characters.

Don’t get me wrong when I say “crudely animated.” The Brothers Chapman have developed a style that works for them and that allows them to dish out a cartoon every week (most of the time), and I’ve been addicted to Strong Bad Emails for a few years now.

My personal favorite?

“Lures and Jigs” . . . check it

After following a very handy tutorial by Lee Brimelow and then modifying the end result, I came up with my first Papervision 3D 2.0 animation! Let me know what you think.

This movie requires Flash Player 8
