Flash-XML Music Player

I just created a Flash/XML music player for Flasheezy, and I thought I’d share the player with you guys. It’s a simple design, loosely based on the old school iPod (Is it weird that we’re already using “iPod” and “old school” in the same sentence?). This player is very easy to update. Simply upload the files you want to add to your website into a specified directory and then update a simple text XML file to point to the new songs. Here’s the player:

This movie requires Flash Player 8

Let me know what you think!

Here are the source files if you want to add it to your own site (Flash CS3 Version): jukebox.zip

And here is the Flash 8 version: jukebox-flash8.zip

  1. Very cool. Good choice of music too.

  2. Very nice and simple player. How difficult would it be to convert it into AS3.

  3. Not too difficult. The way ActionScript 3 handles sound and XML is a little different than in AS 2, so it would take a little bit of work. I just haven’t had the time to do it.

  4. Cool! I was actually looking to invest the time into this conversion. Would you mind if I take a shot at converting the player into AS3?

  5. Hi, Craig-
I can’t seem to open the .FLA. I’m guessing this is a CS3 file? I only have Flash 8 Pro at the moment.

    Thanks,
    Jason

  6. Yes, this was created in Flash CS3. I’ve saved another version as a Flash 8 file. See the link in the updated post.

    Thanks!
    Craig

  7. Thanks, Craig! Works perfectly! I’m going to pick it apart so I can see what’s going on. Thanks very much!

  8. This is a nice and simple player and works great if Flash but I was wondering why when I place it in my dreamweaver site it doesn’t play there? I get your lovely out of order message. I’m sure there’s something simple that I’m looking over.

  9. how do i embed this music player in my website?

  10. Thanks very much, this was a great help for me and is much appreciated…

  11. Hello

    Your player is realy great!
I use it in AS3 but how can i change the AS CODE that the music doesn’t start at the beginning?

thank you very much and i hope you can help me!

  13. Hey Craig think the xml is a fine piece of work.

Only problem is what you suggested earlier in the mp3 tutorial and that was how can you change the as3 code so that it does not play immediately?

hanks for all the great tutorials, this is one of the most in depth ive come across

    great work

  14. I have limited experience with flash, and when I embed the player, the skin appears but it just says “Out of Order:Try Again Later”. the player and the xml file are in the same directory, but I can’t seem to get it to work. How do I fix this?

    Thanks!

  15. that’s really nice!

  16. A few people have asked about the “Out of Order” error but I don’t see anyone answering. I to would like to no. I also don’t no the html code to link to the player its not giving so maybe someone who has a bit of knowledge can share with me how to link to the player.
    Thanks for any input.

  17. For the out of order, you need to have your html page that you have your player on inside the folder with the box. Unfortunately this changed my links. So I am trying to put all the files in with the rest of the html files. I am still uploading the music so I am not sure how it will work.

I have a problem with artists name staying the same. It says Weezer for all of the artists. Any help with this problem.
